A special thank you to Melissa for taking a few beautiful photos of me working in my art studio and capturing the last details of my Spiritual Animals Series. https://melissajalbertphotography.com/
Hello! I’m Sara, a Maine native and local artist. While I have always loved art, I initially pursued a career as an elementary school teacher. Over the past 13 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful students. However, my creative calling has become impossible to ignore, and now, I’m embracing my true path as an artist. For years, I told my students that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up... and so, here I am!
God has blessed me with the gift of creativity—whether that’s flipping furniture, crafting with my family, adding strokes of paint to a canvas, or making my gardens beautiful. These are just a few ways I find joy and share beauty with the world. Though I work with a variety of mediums, including oil pastels, oil paints, and charcoal, acrylics are my jam! From spring through fall, you can find me creating in my beautiful teal she-shed (that I built with my brother). It is a cozy, light-filled space that fuels my creativity and brings me so much joy! With its large French doors, it allows me to create while enjoying views of my gardens and feeling close to nature. It’s the best of both worlds!
Growing up in a small coastal town in Maine, I spent my summers lobstering, fishing, and making memories by the ocean. As the daughter of a lobsterman, I fell in love with being on the water and surrounded by Maine’s stunning shores, which is where my love for seascapes took shape.
While I didn’t attend formal art school, I’ve cherished and practiced art over the years. I had a wonderful start in the art world thanks to my high school art teacher, Mrs. Crabtree. She inspired me and taught me many lessons that I still carry with me today. I am grateful that she believed in me and helped me realize the special talent I have inside! I believe we all have unique talents that make us truly special. Every one of us! Our purpose is to discover and share those gifts with the world. When we do, we bring color, beauty, and vibrancy to our surroundings. The world becomes more beautiful when we pursue what truly inspires us.
I invite you to explore my site and celebrate my love of all things art. This is a space where everyone is welcome—no matter your background, culture, skin color, or who you love. You are valued, and you matter! So remember, be your beautiful self, find what fills your heart with joy, and be brave enough to share it with the world. They’re waiting for you!
This is my first website! If you notice anything that isn’t working or run into any issues, please let me know—I truly appreciate your feedback. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out at ms.sarawells@gmail.com. Thank you!
This website is dedicated to my dear friend, Matt, who passed away in July of 2023. He didn’t see the beauty he brought to this world. On the day he left us, I promised him I would be brave and share my art with the world. This one's for you, Matt. Thank you for believing in me!
“I promise to find hope through the heartache, to find joy through the sadness, to find strength through incredible weakness, to love even when it’s hard, to live freely and bravely, even when I’m scared, to make the most of my days…to live in a way that would make you proud.”
