Spiritual Guides: My Black, White, and Gold Series
These paintings are part of a series that highlights African animals in black, white, and gold. I've always been drawn to black-and-white photography because it shifts the focus from color to the subjects themselves. For this series, I wanted to emphasize the faces of each animal, capturing their calming and beautiful qualities. I chose to add subtle highlights of gold to each face as a reminder that there is gold in every piece of our story. If you look closely, you will find those little glimmers of goodness.
As I worked on this series, I didn’t decide on which animals to paint until the final stages of each piece were coming to a close. The choice of the next animal would reveal itself as I added the last few strokes. Looking back on it now, it's fascinating to see how each animal seemed to reflect my inner feelings at that time—they were reflections of my own journey.
